The city of Aveiro is located near the Portuguese coast, just an hour away from OPorto and two hours from Lisbon by car. Known as the “Portuguese Venice”, next to the sea and the ria “Ria de Aveiro”(estuary), the city is crossed by a network of canals through which “Moliceiros” (local boats painted with bright colours and with humorous decorations) meander. The city buildings in Art Nouveau style, many of them situated along the main canal of “Ria de Aveiro” are an ex libris. Cultural events and exciting nightlife occur all the year, with most bars and clubs situated in the main square (called “Praça do Peixe” (fish market/square)). The city is also known for its traditional sweet, "ovos moles", made of egg yolk and sugar.
